A Poem for the Doctor

Good news...and bad news...I am writing again...but it's the Wild Geese sequel rather than more Gum...still...good news for some, yes?
And...while looking for a suitable Mary Oliver poem...I came across one that is so appropriate right now for the Doctor...
...that I had to post it here. It's not the one I am going to use for the Wild Geese sequel, because that fic is not an angst-fest but a celebration. Still, I do think it says something the Doctor at this point in his life really needs to hear.
The Journey
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice - - -
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
'Mend my life!'
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations - - -
though their melancholy
was terrible.It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice,
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do - - - determined to save
the only life you could save.
- Mary Oliver
Hear that RTD? It is already late enough and a wild night and the universe will never stop tugging at the Doctor's ankles. But if you mean to go on...there is one life that you must save.
That's your own life, Doctor...your own life! Be happy for a time...listen to that voice that all your friends (Rose, Donna, Martha, Mickey, Jack and even Jackson Lake) hear...and go home to your Rose for a rest.
