Geraldine Ferraro

Sarah Palin is not a groundbreaking choice. There has been a woman candidate for VP before this one. But then, I don't expect anyone salivating over the Republicans to know anything about history...or be able to read...or check into anything they hear on FoxNews or a "Approved Message."

I am amazed that people are falling for it. I am.

Bunch of wankers...

My friend was talking about this a few days ago. (I was unaware of her being that I was only two at the time she was VP candidate.) I'm not surprised that everyone is making such a big deal about Palin since not a whole lot of Americans know enough about their history or their government to hold their own in a real political debate.

It's sensationalism, pure and simple. And hypocritical, considering the Republicans are now essentially back tracking on all their arguments against Obama, because they somehow shouldn't apply to Palin as well. And now there are Democrats attacking her for the same reasons for which Obama needed to be defended. The whole affair is getting really stupid.

But what scares me the most are those Americans who are going to vote McCain/Palin only because they feel Clinton was cheated in the primary. Never mind that she and Palin happen to be political opposites. She's a woman and not Obama, so who cares? >=/ Feh.

Palin herself has mentioned Geraldine Ferraro... in her first speech, I think. Of course it's a 'sensational' decision and he only did it to woo disaffected Hilary voters (it didn't work on me, I'll tell you what), but I expect most people who care would have heard of Ferraro. Maybe not, I dunno.

Wow, harsh. I'm an independent, and I'm excited about the choice because I'm excited every time a woman is in a position where a woman is not normally found. All politics aside. I was excited about Nancy Pelosi and Condoleezza Rice. And I'm excited about Sarah Palin. And disappointed in people I know who make such broad sweeping generalizations about political parties.

Just to clarify... what the Republicans are saying is that Sarah Palin is the first woman _GOP_ candidate for Vice President. Geraldine Ferraro was a Democratic candidate.

Sarah Palin: Just because she has boobs doesn't mean she's not everything I DO NOT WANT. She is exactly what I will never go for both because of her record and and her beliefs.

I detest Sarah Palin. Most Hillary voters won't fall for this, I think. She stands in opposition of everything Hillary stood for.

I hoping she collapses under the weight of scrutiny and scandal because she really a very weak pick and people that are excited for her just because she's a woman don't impress me. Look, a girl! Sheesh.

She's George Bush in a dress.

Thank you. I am increasingly tired of the rhetoric(from both sides, of course), but particularly of the idea that the other side is *stupid.* I would have hoped we were better than that, whichever party we intend to vote for.

It is rather ironic that you are upset about my remark...and referencing the other side...and acting as if I've slandered a political party...because I didn't make a broad generalization about any political party.

If you read...

...you will see that I said..."people who are salivating over the Republicans"...meaning the news media and others I've run into who are salivating over the Republican Party choosing a woman. These people are calling it "groundbreaking" and even refering to Miss Palin as "the first woman ever to make it into this position" and they are annoying me.

On the other hand...I did say that people are jumping to conclusions...and not reading. Cases in point.

I will admit to harshness. And I can see how you might be offended, given your excitement. However, I am did not make any broad sweeping generalizations about political parties. I made a broad sweeping generalization about people who are salivating over Sarah Palin and calling her "groundbreaking" and "the first woman to be nominated for VP." And those people are legion at this moment...I have yet to hear Ms. Ferraro mentioned in the news media and I listen to a lot of news. And, of course, I've been told in the course of an average day but average joes that this is the "first time" about 6 dozen times.

I did read what you said. Forgive me, but the implication is that if you are excited about Sarah Palin being a VP candidate, then you are stupid. As [livejournal.com profile] returnofpiper said, it's possible to be happy that a woman may be the next VP without agreeing with all of her politics. For many younger voters, she IS the first time they've seen a woman in this position, as was Senator Clinton.

And...are you salivating over the Republicans, Jonsie? Or is it because of the rose in your teeth?

Excuse me, but I did read what you said. And I still find it very harsh that you would make a generalization over someone "salivating over the Republicans." I know very many highly educated people who are excited about the choice for various reasons. They most certainly can read. And as I've said, I'm excited about the choice. I'm fairly sure that I can read as well.

Also, Sarah Palin is groundbreaking for the Republican Party as she is their first female VP nominee. And Geraldine Ferarro has been mentioned many times in the news. I saw an interview with her talking about Sarah Palin, in fact. And Palin herself has mentioned her as well.

I can't stand her. The lipstick on the pig thing was a setup. McCain has used that expression numerous times.

Palin thinks gays can be cured by prayer. She fought to ban books in Alaska. She wants to make to where creationisim is required in schools. She also wants to do away with Planned Parenthood, which would make it hard for women in poverty to get access to birthcontrol. But is great that she's a girl right? Alot of people will lose personal freedom and diversty will be a dream, but hell she's cute so the suffering of the masses. The Chinese don't seem to mind. Right? She can enslave blacks and kill off the Jews but its all worth it in the name of alledged feminisim.

I work for the press. Palin is not a nice person. In the words of the cats in icanhascheezburger.com "DO NOT WANT!".

While there is some truth in your statements (please note that I never indicated that I was voting for her), there are also a number of falsehoods. I'm glad you work for the press, and I do hope you do your research properly before publishing statements such as this.

Has people been claiming that Palin is the first female running-mate? If so, that's kind of surprising. I live in Canada, so we don't get the same amount/kind of coverage as the US does.

Even though I can't vote, I have to admit that I have conflicted feelings about Palin's candidacy. On one hand, I always love seeing a woman succeed in any career. On the other hand, I find some of her beliefs unsettling.

Putting Sarah aside, I do feel bad for her daughter. No girl should have to go through a teenage pregnancy in the public spotlight. Especially considering that she needs to make some major decisions right now that will ultimately affect her future.
