So...out of the blue...my sweetie got me the Heroes DVD. And I've been watching it all over again. And today, I decided to watch a couple of comment episodes. Now, it may not surprise anyone...as I have mentioned it before...but I'm a bit of a Claire/Peter shipper. I really don't ship anyone on Heroes in any meaningful "Get them together" way. But if it wasn't so very wrong of me, I'd ship Pete and Claire.

And I thought it was particularly lovely that other people on the show seem to ship them. Here's Greg talking to Hayden and he starts gushing about how smokin' hot her scenes with Milo are. To the point where I think he bothered her because he started teasing her about something else to make her laugh. Then, Milo is taking exception to how Zack is treating Claire, and maybe he's doing protective brother-ish but it comes across as wannabe boyfriend.

Finally, Milo is talking about Chris in the initial scenes with Claude and Pete and he mentions how amazingly natural Chris is...and you know what? He is astounding. I was originally a bit distracted by Chris in Heroes because I could still hear the Doctor in him (that teacher lecturing mode is much the same). But watching it again, I came away very impressed with CE's smooth acting skills. He seems to actually be thinking of the lines before he says them. They flow like his own words. Beautiful really.

Don't feel alone. I too quasi-ship Claire/Peter.

So do I... Milo and Hayden are so sweet!
I know this is denial, but I still can't believe she is his niece...
Maybe Peter has been adopted... lol... who knows...

Well...Peter being adopted is very likely. So far we have no indication that their mom is "special" and every indication that she's like HRG. It would make sense for her to have adopted children. Also, there are two places where they could be foreshadowing Peter's being adopted. The spot after their father dies when Nathan says "He wasn't your father"...and then covers by saying Peter left a long time ago. And the spot where Simone's dad asks Pete's mom if Pete "knows"...which could refer to her role in things...but could also refer to Pete being adopted.

I would say that the Mom was like HRG and married Mr. Petrelli because he was "special" and he already had Nathan with him. She had Peter in tow(or passed Peter off as Petrelli's kid to facilitate the marriage). In this little fantasy of mine, Peter is Linderman's boy.

I thought you were with me on this one, Queenie. Like you, I imagine, I'm not out writing (or reading) fanfic...but I have hopes that Peter isn't really Nathan's blood-kin brother. I really am not one for incestual relationships, but I sort of fell for Pete/Claire when he rescues her and is "totally her hero."

One of the problems the writers noted that they were running into last year is that their original plan was to rotate cast in and out of the story on a fairly frequent basis - but that viewers became so attached to the characters that they suddenly had to keep people around.

I honestly don't think that their initial plan was to have Peter being Claire's uncle. And it may turn out that he's not - although there's an awfully strong family resemblance between the three main Petrellis for them not to have blood between them. I would think it'd be more likely that Claire turns out not to be Nathan's daughter.

Having said that, I think part of the reason people tend to ship Peter and Claire is because they still have Milo's role as Jess on Gilmore Girls in the back of their minds when they're comparing the characters' ages. Peter is at least 10-12 years older than Claire, whereas Jess would only be about 4-6 years older. Either of which is a middling to huge deal at Claire's age.

I enjoyed CE as Claude and I hope we see more of him later.

Do Heroes fans go crazy and beat each other up about ships like they do in DW? I'm so exhausted by the whole Martha/or Rose hate thing I daren't commit to another show!

I must admit to having read some Claire/Peter but only out of boredom at work. And honestly, until they do a blood test we have no proof that Nathan actually is her father. The best way I can describe it is that the characters have heat between them. Not chemistry but heat, much like our beloved Doctor and Rose.

And can I just say, I read a short little drabble (redundant, I know)from the Eureka fandom. It was about projects that GD is working on. And one of the projects was meeting the doctor. So unexpected it made me laugh.

Damn! They really shouldn't run Heroes out of order. I wonder if they are aware of that. It's definitely serialized and the story is quite complex. To answer your question...yes, Heroes is very good. But it does demand a serious committment from the viewer. You have to watch about six episodes before it starts to come together and make sense. It is a real tribute to the actors and show creators that it became a hit with all the baggage it forces the viewer to tote around.

All I can say is it does turn out to be worth all of the trouble. I adore the show and yet, I don't ship in it...which is highly unusual for me. Generally, I don't elevate a shot to "can't miss" status unless I ship someone in it. I am often take-it or leave-it about television shows until I start shipping someone. But Heroes is so intricately crafted and heartfelt that it slowly drew me in. And really...there isn't one of the cast that I think is expendable. Okay...maybe Ted. ;->

Rae
thinking one of the reasons I like Heroes is that the concept of love is so deeply woven into it...the people, for all of their emotional baggage genuinely care about things...and each other...so it's like New Who S2.

I blame the whole Peter/Claire incest vibe on the writers. (Unfortunately, this isn't Arrested Development and so you can't play on that for laughs.) When the two characters were first introduced, they shouldn't have made the two so compatible in a romantic way. Or, they shouldn't have been made into relatives once the writers recognized the existence of that kind of chemistry.

On top of that, the fact that there weren't really any other interesting candidates to pair the characters up with didn't help either. I'm only a casual viewer and I still noticed the vibe between the two. On the other hand, I know there were other love interests, but they didn't make much of an impression on me.

Maybe some of the new casting choices this season will deal with this. (I'm pretty excited about them actually. Convinced me to try watching the show now.)

I think it was two-fold. First, I don't think the writers really had any idea about the chemistry. They were writing the show out ahead of the episodes and probably not really seeing the chemistry thing in the studio. I think the relatives thing just developed because they needed Claire to be connected to the family so she ended up in the right place at the right time.

Then, there was the problems you mention with Zack and Simone. I don't know if they were trying to avoid attachments for Claire by making Zack gay...I think they were. But it left her wide open to field that pass from Pete...and also...the murky relationship with Isaac kept Simone from being a viable character. I never warmed to her at all. The very idea of Simone as "the normal one at the center of the storm"...fell through. Ando became that person.

And Mohindar...which I, also, think they NEVER intended. I think they meant for Mohindar to be one of the "special" people...given what we know of his sister. He could still develop that. I would love to learn that the dream boy was actually Mohindar's astral projection or something and HIS talent was to enter people's dreams. But I imagine he would recognize himself if that had been a photo of him as a boy. Also, I think that it is possible (and consistent with the show) that Chandra discovered the genetic abnormalities by accident while searching for something quite different.

Rae
not spoiled, as usual, but I've noticed Claire has a new boyfriend...and I'm all for that...like Tim Kring...I wouldn't put Claire and Peter together at this point, anyway. She's far too young. That's something for S4.

Spoiler-free Rabid, I'm a casual viewer and the new casting still make me squeal with glee. So, I'm hoping you do so as well. (Because, you'll actually be caught by surprise.) :)

As for Claire and Peter. The show could probably pull it off if Peter and Nathan weren't related. Or, if Claire isn't a Petrelli. (They won't be like George Michael and Maeby, where they've always known each other as cousins.) Also, she must absolutely be at least of legal age. Otherwise, I'm going to get the willies. Peter's already significantly older (I'm thinking at least a decade) than Claire. You don't need to add the whole "she's a minor" obstacle to this jumble.

From what I've heard, Kring takes an evil delight in sinking ships, which is why Claire was de-aged (we were originally supposed to think she was the same age as the actress- 17/18) and turned into Nathan's daughter.

Though, the nature of this show requires constant surprises, so I wouldn't be shocked if we eventually find out that Claire really isn't Nathan's daughter after all.

Fortunately for me, DW is the only fandom where I seriously ship so I'm not too concerned either way. My fav ships in Heroes are Hiro/Ando and Plaude, and I KNOW there's no chance of seeing those on screen, thank goodness for fanfic!
